A little Artistic History
The visual arts are art forms such as ceramics, drawing, painting,
sculpture, printmaking, design,
crafts, photography, video, filmmaking and architecture. Many artistic disciplines such as (performing arts, conceptual art, textile arts) involve aspects of the visual arts as well as arts of other types. Also included within the visual arts are the applied art such as industrial design, graphic design,fashion design, interior design and decorative art.
Visual and performing arts are part of the liberal arts. Including areas like theater, music and studio art. The current usage of the term "visual arts" includes fine art as well as the applied, decorative arts and crafts.
Here at the Soufriere Primary School, we consider Visual and Performing Arts not only necessary but very essential to the creative skills, enhancement and development of every student. Just like the the core subjects (Mathematics, English and Sciences), we believe that the arts also play a vital role in the development of our students, allowing them to highten their creativity levels, grow in confidence and sharpen their artistic skills which could be very useful for potential career opportunities after their educational journies.
The VPA Instructor is Mr. Olivacce a former student of the school who has dedicated his time and effort over the years to the school, staff and students in many ways to ensure the further development of his alma mater.
